A conventional ad agency may talk about brand stories and awareness. SME owners often ask something more direct: “When will customers contact me?” A beautiful video with unclear goals or content that misses customer needs makes it hard to know whether the spend was worthwhile.
But “no immediate enquiry” does not automatically mean a video failed. Someone may see it, then search, compare or visit weeks later. Decide which part of the buying journey the video serves, then use fitting metrics rather than expecting one video to deliver every result.
Step 1: Position the offer and define your ideal customer
Trying to “sell to everyone” often produces a slogan everyone has heard but nobody feels is meant for them. An ideal customer profile (ICP) need not be a long report. Start with four questions:Who needs you most, what problem do they face now, why have they not bought yet, and what proof would help them decide?
Example: a local restaurant preparing to open a second branch
Do not write only “suitable for any gathering.” Consider birthdays, family dinners and small work gatherings. Birthday guests may look first at the setting and photo spots; families may care more about seating, menu and transport. The same venue calls for different openings and shots.
Choosing one audience most likely to respond does not mean serving only them forever. It makes the first content batch testable. Review who comments and enquires, then adjust the next audience focus.
Step 2: Lead with value and solutions, not self-congratulation
The founder's story can be worth telling, but every short video need not start with the company's founding year. When viewers do not know you yet, show that you understand a problem, can offer a solution and have visible evidence that it works.
A practical script sequence is:Specific problem → real demonstration or comparison → clear next step. For venue photography, do not simply say “we take professional photos.” Show the same space under poor and effective lighting, then explain how a business can prepare for a shoot. Helpful content lets viewers decide before the call to action.
Give each video one main question
If a 30-second video tries to cover the brand vision, every service, pricing, an offer and the team story, viewers may remember none of it. Split other ideas into a series so each video has one clear job.
Step 3: Build sustainable batch filming and review
Relying on one viral hit is risky, but filming a large fixed number every month is not a formula for success either. TikTok has said that simply posting more does not directly change how any single video is recommended. Batch filming helps by bringing the venue, team, equipment and talent together, reducing per-video overhead and leaving enough topics to compare.
Before a one-day shoot, group topics into three sets:Answer common questions, show the product or service process, and address buying concerns.Prepare different openings and essential shots for each set. After filming, log each topic, length, opening, delivered version and publishing date. At month-end, review which groups brought meaningful engagement and enquiries, then plan the next batch.
Example monthly content rhythm
Week 1: batch filming → Weeks 2–4: publish by theme → Every week: log views and actual enquiries → Month-end: select topics worth developing. This is a manageable workflow, not a platform requirement or a guarantee of equal reach each week.
The final question: how will you know whether video helped?
Reach and plays show whether content was seen; average watch time can guide editing. But commercial value also depends on whether the right customers take a next step. For a restaurant that may be a booking; for a business service, a quote request or meeting. Ask new leads where they heard about you and compare the answers with published content.
- Does each video target a clear audience and one main question?
- Does it show visible product evidence rather than adjectives alone?
- Are views and enquiries recorded separately, without treating correlation as causation?
- What information will guide the next shoot?
A system that keeps learning is more reliable than a lucky one-off. Video can help people notice and understand a brand, but purchases still depend on the product, price, service and customer needs.
